Hurricane Ida Pummels Louisiana and Mississippi

Millions left without power.

Ida was a Category 4 when it made landfall, causing destruction to parts of the Gulf Coast with heavy flooding conditions and dangerous storm surges. More than a million people in Louisiana and Mississippi are without power Monday morning and officials have not yet been able to fully assess the damage done.

Several buildings have collapsed following powerful winds of up to 150 mph that swept through the coastlines before the storm gradually weakened. One brick building completely collapsed from the onslaught. So far, one death has been attributed to the storm after someone was struck by a falling tree.

Hospitals in New Orleans are running on backup generator power. The same is true for the pumps in New Orleans that remove water from portions of that below-sea-level city.

Over the weekend, President Biden declared a major disaster for Louisiana and ordered federal aid to supplement the state’s recovery efforts. Governor John Bel Edwards told residents that cleanup and recovery after the storm could take weeks before normalcy returns.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For federal, state, and local officials as they handle the effects of the storm.
  • For electric companies as they work to restore power.
  • For first responders as they assist individuals and businesses where homes and structures have been damaged and injuries have occurred.
  • For people in all the states that will experience flooding and other damages from Hurricane Ida.
